what I made for back-tack 3

Kathi wanted to know if the rest of you could see the stuffie I made for Stacey as my contribution to the back-tack 3 swap - I was going to wait until she had posted her photos, but it's been 2 weeks so I'll go ahead and post my photos here first (you can see all the finished softies over at the Flickr back-tack set). I used the Wee Wonderfuls Wee Bunny pattern, and decided that my third color would be cream, which I used for the embroidery and the buttons. The black is an eyelet fabric over the same white fabric used for the front - can't really see it in the photos I took, though. I wanted to echo the floral eyelet black-on-black embroidery with the cream-on-white and get lots of texture going. I used vintage crewel wool that I bought a while back at a thrift shop (carefully washed first) and buttons from my button box. To mark out the basic shapes (mostly circles and the letter "s" on the belly), I used a fabric pen with ink that gradually fades with exposure to air (not the best idea if you get the flu during the project and don't get back to it for a few days), and a fabric pen with ink that washes out with just water (note: when humidity is high, this one doesn't last either). I traced the pattern pieces, did the embroidery, and then cut and sewed the pieces, which was tricky but still easier than doing all that embroidery without a hoop.
The last shot isn't the most flattering - I did have trouble getting the seams smooth, but I should have gotten a few shots that showed the rest of the stuffie as well as the front. I made a second stuffie for Stacey with the same pattern and tweaked it a bit (photos to come), and what with retrospect and all, know I should have done a practice stuffie first, then the one for the swap. File for next time.
